According to the regulations of theEuropeanUnion, work and safety shoes must becarefully cared for in order to maintain their protective functions. Employers are made responsible for this. The provisions apply here
Personalprotective equipment(PPE) , as in Annex II under paragraph 1.4. described. Employers who do not know how to ensure proper shoe care often pay a high price:shoes that arestillusableare thrown away after a few weeks or months "to be on the safe side" and replaced with expensive new shoes. Alow-cost alternative to throwing away used but still usable shoesis still relatively unknown: professional reconditioning. The companies certified by the European Shoe Shine Association offer this service.
